The 2002 Salt Lake Olympics will see a reunion between Barbara Underhill and Paul Martini, the 1984 world champions in pairs figure skating, as they join Chris Cuthbert in the CBC broadcast booth to provide analysis of the Olympic figure skating events.
Underhill and Martini won five national championships and following their amateur careers, they went on to win seven professional world championships.
Martini was CBC's Olympic figure skating analyst at the 1998 Nagano Games without Underhill, but she has worked as an analyst for CTV's coverage of figure skating over the years. Her partnership with Martini has extended to broadcasting on several occasions in the past, including the 1988 and 1992 Winter Olympics, and the world championships in 1993 and 1994.
Underhill, who lives with her husband, Rick Gaetz, and children, Samantha and Matthew, devotes much of her time to the Stephanie Gaetz KeepSafe Foundation. The foundation, named in honour of her daughter who died tragically in an accident at the age of eight months, works with organizations like SafeKids Canada to improve children's safety in everyday life. |
